I didn't recognise half the players let alone spot you Tel. Whether it was the lack of atmosphere, the sight of a large empty terrace, or the lack luster play I thought that it was a pretty dire match.

I was there in the Covered end along with my dad, brother and sister in law. It was all a bit surreal, but I do remember cursing the bastards for digging up the pitch at the end lol.
Who would have imagined back then that one day we'd end up with the Valley being the magnificent stadium that we have today. It's just a shame that the team is actually in a worse position now than it was then.

Too true martin....I stayed for about an hour afterwards and seeing as loads of people had dug the turf, I took some from the south end by the left hand pylon as you view it from the covered end.......it dies anyway!

We had two coachloads of Charlton at Shrewsbury turn up in the car park outside their old ground and the next thing was we all started kicking a ball about and it ended up and |I kid you not wit about 50 on each side.....the other funny event was the man walking across the pitche before KO with a coracle on his back so he could retrieve the balls from the river....happy (ish) days

I just about remember the game, I was about 10. We got there a bit late and struggled to find a seat but ended up in what is now the Jimmy Seed stand. Can't remember a lot about the game but I do remember asking my dad why someone had sprayed 'CAFE' all over the toilet walls, obviously well impressed by his son's reading ability he said he would explain when we got home. (yes I now realise it was CAFC). We took a bit of the turf from just by where the police box is now and took it home, it filled a warn out bit of our garden nicely until about 6 months later we had our drive way widened and well it went.

Wasn't at the Shrewsbury game but do remember being at Old Trafford for a game when we got relegated one year. We were stuck in the ground until it emptied but the home fans wouldn't leave until we had. About an hour after the final whistle with people swapping shirts and season tickets through the fences the police moved the home fans out side where they formed a walkway for us to walk through to the coaches. Don't like anything to do with Utd but that is a fond memory.
